The Broad Creek/ Health Department Gully SPSC Restoration project was designed to restore stability and function to a 750 LF ephemeral gully that flows to the East Branch of Broad Creek. This channel was highly unstable and leading to excessive delivery of sediment downstream during storm events. By stabilizing the gully and constructing additional upslope stormwater detention and infiltration devices in the parking lot, this project is stopping a significant source of sediment and nonpoint source pollution from entering Broad Creek. The gully was actively eroding and was about 40 feet from the County’s Health Department Building. In addition, the gully also covered a section of the popular running trail in Broad Creek Park with sediment. Beyond the environmental benefits from this project, it also has protected infrastructure and prevented continued damage to the trail.
