Valentine Creek Restoration

The hydrologic and hydraulic analyses of Valentine Creek revealed that water quality and water quantity control could be met with a retrofit design. This included the construction of a forebay sediment-trapping system, constructed wetlands, and a series of grade controls, which included an SPSC system at the outfall of the pond and multiple grade controls downstream of the step pools to repair the incised channel. Together, these devices provide pollution reduction to help meet federal and state regulatory requirements, improve the function of the SWM facility, capture sediment loads, and restore natural drainage conditions. In addition, providing access to the forebay, channel, and wetlands will facilitate maintenance and sediment load management. Landscaping with site-specific vegetative wetland species enhances aesthetic and water quality benefits.
